Color laser printers provide precise, sharp and brilliant printed images at incredible speed. Color laser printers’ technology works like those of its monochromatic counterpart. The core principle of every laser printer is the use of static electricity. Using this principle, the photoreceptor or the revolving cylinder component of a laser printer, is being charged by a corona wire. After which, the printer produces a laser that would “draw” letters or images over the photoreceptor by discharging some certain points of it—hence an electrostatic image is produced. Then, positively charged powdered color toner clings to the photoreceptor’s discharged areas (where the laser “drew” images). Afterwards, the negatively charged is paper is then rolled below the photoreceptor and picks up the image. Because the photoreceptor and the belt are of the same speed, the paper gets the precise copy of the said image. The final process of printing through a laser printer is when a paper passes the fuser or heated rollers that melt the toner powder so that it can merge into the papers’ fibers and leave an imprint.
Color laser printers were invented by a Xerox researcher Gary Starkweather in the late 1960s. The first commercial laser printer though was sold to the market half a decade later. Back then, laser printers were bulky and expensive. By the advent of the personal computers in the 1980s, laser printers became also mass produced and more affordable, starting with that of HP LaserJet and then followed by Brother.
