An LCD monitor is a relatively current technology that uses a liquid crystal material in order to display images, words and other visual data on a computer screen. Most recent computers and laptops utilize LCD technology in their computer monitors.
LCD monitors use two types of displays, active matrix technology and passive matrix technology. In active matrix technology, transistors are arranged in a matrix in order to display pixels on a computer screen. In order to display a particular pixel, a transistor row on the matrix is turned on or activated.
Passive matrix technology, on the other hand, has transistors (usually in the form of conductive metal) arranged in a grid. An LCD monitor that utilizes passive matrix technology needs to charge each transistor on a grid in order to activate or display a pixel. Most LCD monitors, however, use active matrix technology over passive matrix technology because it responds faster and has a more precise voltage control.
