Apple MacBook Air 11.6" - Core i5 - MacOS X 10.7 Lion - 4 GB RAM - 128 GB SSD

Mine is the standard upgrade 1.6 GHZ, 4 GB memory, 128 GB storage. For what I do, surfing the web, e-mails, word processing and spread sheets, this seemed the right one. I had an opportunity to play with the 11" and 13" units before ordering and knew I wanted the 11". From what I had read in reviews, I decided I was not concerned whether I got the faster Samsung storage or the Toshiba. For my use, it probably wouldn’t make a difference. I ended up with the MacBook Air. I ordered it from the store by telephone on 8/15 by FedEx 2nd Day and received it 8/17 afternoon. That is fast for Hawaii. I unboxed it and connected to my home wifi network with no incident. I elected to not transfer my iMac contents to the MBA because of all the junk on the iMac and the limited storage on the MBA. This thing is fast. Download times are way faster than my 3.06 core two duo iMac. Contrary to some other reviews, I find the keyboard has a good feel and is very satisfactory. I knew what the display size was going to be like before I ordered. It is crisp and easy to read the text. There are many resolution choices so you can pick text and window size. The full screen option is handy to get the maximum window. The display isn’t quite as good as my iMac but it is close. The speakers are small and the base isn’t very strong, as is expected. I have found no distortion. If you listen to music alot, you probably want to use better speakers. The build quality and appearance is typical Apple. It is a beautiful and very functional machine. I am still learning the differences with Lion but, as with all Apple OS upgrades, it is a continuation and improvement on the previous OS system. For me, the biggest draw is the complete mobility of this computer. It just easily goes with you and is a full functioning laptop computer. The only thing you give up is screen size and I don’t find that a real disadvantage. I have had no second thoughts on the size or configuration of the MBA I chose. If you choose it as your only computer, you might want to have a bigger display at home.

Apple 13.3" MacBook Air dual-core Intel Core i7 1.8GHz, 4GB RAM, 256GB Flash Storage, Intel HD Graphics 3000, Mac OS X Lion

I bought my new MacBook Air 13" from the store -- my first purchase here. Saved a couple hundred $$ off the Apple Store price (even less than the Apple Education Store price!), got exactly what I wanted (maxed out RAM and a couple other options), and had it delivered to my door on the exact day and time promised. I’ll be back!

Apple Mac Pro One 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Nehalem Processor, 3GB RAM, 1TB Hard Drive, ATI Radeon HD 5770, 18x SuperDrive

While shopping and doing my research I noticed the 2011 iMac models nearly reaching a Mac Pro level of parts specs and performance. I asked our IT and he was friendly enough to walk me through the difference between the two units. On the surface, the newer iMacs can indeed match up with Mac Pros, but the IT guy opened my eyes to the possibilities in a Mac Pro that is not available in the iMac.

It is easy to upgrade a Mac Pro and make it grow with you as new technology comes along. Our IT guy said this to me and took it with a grain of salt. When I got the Mac Pro from MacMall I found out the truth in what he said. The expansion bays in the Mac Pro looks unintimidating for a non-technical person like me to upgrade the system. It looks like it has ample room for what technology will have new in 10 years or so. It's unbelievable how Apple exerted effort into this tiny detail.

That is the biggest factor I was considering: a computer that will be able to last for a long long time. Not in terms of durability. God knows Apple computers are tough. But in terms of fighting obsolescence. The iMac, unfortunately, doesn't look it. The Mac Pro does, and may be the reason why among all things Mac, the Mac Pro is the longest to withstand a refresh.
